Anatomy of a Murder

Saw Anatomy of a Murder. Stewart's very good--it's the kind of humane lawyer he plays in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, only this one actually has the cunning to win a court case. George C. Scott is an excellent low-key predator--the word "tiger shark" comes to mind; Ben Gazzara has the most unsettlingly feminine eyes, they're so lovely, and Lee Remick is hot. Oh, and Joseph Welch--well, he doesn't seem to be giving a performance, exactly, but he's still an engaging presence, the very voice of amiable reason, so to speak. If I like this less than Advice and Consent, that's because you don't have a powerhouse performance in the league of Charles Laughton lighting up the screen.
